Why Website Accessibility Matters

Accessibility is a general term used to describe how easy it is for people to get to, use, or understand things.

handicapAccessibility is a general term used to describe how easy it is for people to get to, use, or understand things.

For many websites, that is an understandable challenge. Some sites contain hundreds or thousands of pages devoted to their chosen subject or products. As a design team, there are ways that Heideldesign can help all of your users to better manipulate your website. This includes users with special needs and those using alternative browsing devices.

When a website is designed with accessibility in mind, it conforms to web standards for coding. It also is designed with a semantic outline. When these two factors combine, a website becomes useful with or without the visual formatting in place.

Being able to use a website without visual clues is a huge boost for users with vision impairments who may use "talking" browsers. A clear outline helps those who may use alternate input devices instead of a mouse. These users include those with physical challenges.

Proper site design extends to individuals that access the web without the traditional PC/web browser setup. Accessible sites are equally usable by those using PDA or cell phone browsers.

These well-built websites are also favored by search engines like Google and Yahoo. If the site is easy to read and navigate by a human, their automated gathering processes will find it just as easy to catalog key words for people who will search for your content online.
